Cooking Club -- 2017 Schedule of Events

The Gale Free Library Cooking Club started in the summer of 2014.  It began in response to patrons' requests for cooking and food-related programs.  We meet monthly and alternate between months where we each bring in a dish related to a certain ingredient or theme, and months where we invite special guests to give lectures and demonstrations on various topics.
All are welcome.  Please join us!

March 14, 2017 -- 6:30pm
Soups & Stews

Are you looking for some new soup and stew recipes to make during the cold winter months?

Bring in your favorite soup or stew to share (along with your recipe) and we will sample all of the dishes brought in.  We will then compile and distribute the recipes so that you'll have some great ideas for new soups and stews to make at home.

April 11, 2017 -- 6:30pm
Breads

There are so many types of bread to enjoy -- yeast bread, flatbread, soda bread, fruit bread and cornbread to name just a few.

Bring in your favorite homemade bread to share, and don't forget to bring along a copy of your recipe!

May 9, 2017 -- 6:00pm
Lacto-fermented foods with
Cristina Garcia

Lacto-fermented vegetables are cultured vegetables.  They provide a healthy source of probiotics to heal and maintain a healthy gut.  Chef Cristina Garcia, from The Farm School in Athol, MA, will discuss the many health benefits of lacto-fermented foods and also show us how we can make lacto-fermented foods at home.  She will demonstrate how to make sauerkraut, kvass, and kimchi and will have samples of these foods to try.

All who attend will receive recipe sheets to take home.

Sprouts!

Raw sprouts like alfalfa, clover, radish, onion and mung bean add color, texture and flavor to dishes.  They can be enjoyed cold in sandwiches and salads or warm in stir-fries.  Growing your own sprouts at home is easy when you have the right equipment and you know where to buy your seeds.

Come learn about sprouting and try a delicious sprout salad and a great-tasting sprouted bread.
